Dr. Stephen Green serves as Associate Professor and Extension Child Development Specialist with the Texas AgriLife Extension Service, The Texas A&M University System. He conducts workshops and delivers presentations throughout the state of Texas on a variety of parenting, child development, child care, and family life issues. A central focus of his work is the unique contributions that fathers bring to the parenting role. Dr. Green has published numerous journal articles, Extension publications, and educational curricula, including Families First: Keys to Successful Family Functioning and Fathers Reading Every Day (FRED). He is a member of the National Council on Family Relations.
Dr. Green’s education consists of a Ph.D. in Family and Child Development from Virginia Tech University, a M.S. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Harding University, and a B.A. in Psychology from the University of California, Davis.

Rick Peterson, Ph.D., L.M.F.T., C.F.L.E.
Assistant Professor and Extension Parenting Specialist

Dr. Peterson is an Assistant Professor and Parenting Specialist with the Texas AgriLife Extension Service at Texas A&M University. He has statewide leadership responsibilities for program development and outcome evaluation of parenting and family life education programs. He conducts workshops and applied research related to parenting and family life and has written numerous Extension publications, curricula and peer reviewed journal articles. One of Rick’s current initiatives is the integration of technology into program delivery of Extension programs and materials through web access as well as self–paced learning modules for parents, caregivers and family professionals.
Rick has program development experience in the areas of family life, parenting, child care and mental health. As an extension specialist, Rick has conducted applied family research, developed educational outreach programs, evaluated their effectiveness, and reported impacts to stakeholders for public policy consideration regarding family functioning and well–being. As an educator he has developed and taught such classes as community programs in family life, parent education and a graduate course in program planning and evaluation.
Rick is the President Elect of the National Association for Rural Mental Health and holds memberships in the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy and National Council of Family Relations. He is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, a Certified Family Life Educator, and a trained Mediator, and holds degrees from Kansas State University including a B.A. in Agriculture, a M.S. in Marriage and Family Therapy and a Ph.D. in Family Life Education.

Janie L. Harris, M.Ed., C.R.S.
Extension Housing and Environment Specialist

Janie Harris is an Extension Housing and Environment Specialist, providing leadership for Extension educational programs for adults and youth in housing and the environment. She provides in-service training for Extension faculty, and develops and provides educational programs and resources for use by Extension faculty, volunteer leaders, clientele, agencies, organizations, and associations. The current issues being addressed in the Housing and Environment program are: Health Indoor Air for Texas' Homes, Safety in the Home, Homebuyer Education and Counseling, Water Conservation and Quality, and Accessible Living.
Janie has a B.S. degree in Home Economics from Texas Tech University and a M.Ed. degree in Adult and Extension Education from Texas A&M University. She holds a Texas Real Estate Broker's license, is a graduate of the Texas Realtors Institute, is a Certified Residential Specialist, and is certified as a Homebuyer Educator. She has more than 12 years experience in real estate sales and counseling. Additionally, Janie has completed numerous workshops and trainings conducted by the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and the Texas Department of Transportation. In 1998, she was certified as a Child Passenger Safety Technician.
Twenty percent of Janie's time is devoted to directing a statewide Extension educational effort in traffic safety. The Passenger Safety team develops and provides educational programs and resources related to traffic safety issues for use by Extension faculty, volunteers, clientele, agencies, organizations, and associations.
In 1998, Janie received an individual specialist Extension Superior Service Award, an Extension Superior Service Team Award as a member of the Master Parent Volunteer program team, the Epsilon Sigma Phi Team Award for Coordinated Campaign Safe & Sober, and the Texas Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Specialist Team Award. In 1999, Janie and the Passenger Safety team were recognized with an Extension Superior Service Team Award. In 2000, she received a mid-career award from Epsilon Sigma Phi. In 2003, Janie received a Southern Region, Epsilon Sigma Phi award.
