“Getting the wiggles out” is not the sole purpose of outdoor play. Active play is essential for not only healthy development, but also for many other reasons. Unfortunately, outdoor play is not a priority for some schools. Research clearly shows outdoor play helps children to develop strength and coordination, make connections to nature, and satisfy curiosity and interest. This 2-hour course will help teachers understand the importance of outdoor play and how they can make it a priority in their daily curriculum. Trouble in the Classroom: Overcoming Challenging Behaviors in the Early Childhood Classroom
In this 2-hour module, we will examine common disruptive behaviors such as biting, aggression, non-compliance, separation anxiety, and impulse control. This course will help you develop strategies to help children achieve positive behavioral outcomes. Through the course, you will develop a personal behavior management plan. Each behavior will be examined through the eyes of an infant (0-12 months), toddler (12-24 months), two year old (24-36 months), three year old (36-48 months), and four year old (48-60 months). Infants’ experiences early in life literally influence the physical structures of the brain, opening the way for patterns of thought and behavior for the rest of a child’s life. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, or SIDS, is the leading cause of death in babies between the ages of 1 month and 1 year. Abusive Head Trauma: Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS) is the group of signs and symptoms experienced by very young children who are shaken. In 25% of diagnosed SBS cases, the victim’s injuries will prove fatal. SBS is completely preventable. This 1-hour course addresses each of these critical topics related to caring for the youngest and most vulnerable population of children, infants and toddlers. Caregivers will learn how to optimize development and minimize risk to the children in their care. Part 1 - Transporting Children Safely in Child Care
Transporting Children Safely in Child Care has replaced Introduction to Child Safety Seats for Child Care Providers. If you have already taken Introduction to Child Safety Seats for Child Care Providers you may get an additional two credits for taking Transporting Children Safely in Child Care. Both courses meet the new requirement that child care workers have an additional two hours of credit in transportation safety. Transporting Children Safely in Child Care is designed to provide child care providers with basic knowledge on the correct selection, usage, and installation of child safety seats as well as guidelines for protecting children in and around vehicles. This course qualifies for 2 clock hours of credit and meets the requirements for two hours of transportation safety education as mandated by Jacob´s Law.

Grow Sun Smart - Reducing risks for skin cancer in child care settings
With over one million new cases diagnosed each year, skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States. Studies have shown that 80 percent of lifetime sun exposure can occur before the age of 18, childhood is a crucial period for awareness and prevention. A large proportion of lifetime exposure occurs in childhood therefore, targeting childcare settings can be an effective way to reduce ultraviolet (UV) exposure. It is important to protect young children from UV exposure as well as educate children with lifelong sun safety behaviors in order to reduce the risks of skin cancer. This 1- hour course is designed to help you gain a better understanding of how to Grow Sun Smart. This short educational module will teach us how we can all Grow Sun Smart, by minimizing sun exposure and reducing the risk of skin cancer at our child care centers.
