Child Care Courses: Observation and Assessment

Child Development and Assessment
Knowing how children develop is essential to meeting each child's needs. This module, which can be part of a 6-part Pre-Service training series, focuses on Core Competency 1: Child Growth and Development from the Texas Core Competencies for Early Childhood Practitioners. Participants will explore how children grow, develop, and learn, what to expect of children at different ages between birth and age five, and how to take into account the unique capabilities of each child. Funding for this online training was provided by the Workforce Solutions- Gulf Coast Workforce Board as part of their Early Care and Education Quality Improvement initiative.

Curriculum Planning and Child Assessment
Effective administrators help practitioners in their programs set up an environment that is appropriate for children's developmental needs and plan and implement curriculum and activities that are aligned with state early learning guidelines, culturally responsive, inclusive for all children, families, and staff, and based on a sound model of planning, assessment, and modification. This course, part 3 of a 3-part leadership series, focuses primarily on Core Competency 5: Implementing a Developmentally Appropriate Curriculum and Environment from the Texas Core Competencies for Early Childhood Administrators. Funding for this online training was provided by the Workforce Solutions- Gulf Coast Workforce Board as part of their Early Care and Education Quality Improvement initiative.

Getting a Clue: Observation and Assessment
What do you need to know about doing assessment? This 1-hour course will give a brief overview of the needs for assessment and observation in an early childhood classroom. The course will examine strategies to assist teachers in preparing to do assessment and analyzing results from those assessments. Students will learn how to communicate with parents about children?s growth and development using those assessment documents. Funding for this online training was provided by the Workforce Solutions- Gulf Coast Workforce Board as part of their Early Care and Education Quality Improvement initiative.
