Learning centers can provide early childhood classrooms with a perfect environment in which lesson plans can come to life. Truly effective centers will help children develop in all areas while having fun with peers. This 2-hour course will assist you in understanding the purpose for having learning centers and will lead you though a step-by-step process of how to develop, build and manage a center. Effective learning centers do not just happen; they take careful planning as to what content to include, how the content will be used, organized, managed, and assessed. Creating Special Spaces for Young Children
Young children learn best in well-planned environments that are designed to meet their developmental needs. This module, which can be part of a 6-part Pre-Service training series, focuses on Core Competency 3: Learning Environments, Planning Framework, Curriculum, and Standards from the Texas Core Competencies for Early Childhood Practitioners. Participants will explore how to provide a well-planned, safe, and secure environment designed to meet children's individual and unique needs, and how to create an environment that promotes children's social emotional, cognitive, and physical development. Environments that Teach
The environment in an early care and education program is the foundation for learning and development in all domains. From Good to Great: Creative and Interactive Circle Time Routines for Young Audiences
Circle time, often called large group time, is a time when children come together as a group to learn and have fun, solve problems, and learn to be a part of a community. During this special time of the day children begin looking at the world from the perspective of 'we' and 'ours'. As children and teachers come together to talk and learn a feeling of community grows and children become more comfortable functioning as a group. This 2-hour module will assist teachers in planning more effective circle time experiences. The module describes appropriate activities and transitions for helping children move from one activity to the next and strategies for keeping children engaged during circle time. I Wonder - Science in the Early Childhood Classroom

Language Across the Curriculum
This 2-hour course, entitled "Language Across the Curriculum," is one of a 3-part series, "Infants & Toddlers: Strengthening Language through Responsive and Effective Interactions," created by Collaborative for Children to help early care professionals understand the importance of early language experiences and to learn ways to promote infants' and toddler' language development within the child care setting. This course begins with a discussions around key components necessary for all high quality infant and toddler program curricula, followed by ways language can be incorporated into routine care activities. Then, we will look at various language activities that can be done within the classroom routines. Finally, we will discuss effective book reading and music and movement activities. Magical Math Experiences for Early Childhood Classrooms

More Outside Play Please: Importance of Outside Play
"Getting the wiggles out" is not the sole purpose of outdoor play. Active play is essential for not only healthy development, but also for many other reasons. Unfortunately, outdoor play is not a priority for some schools. Research clearly shows outdoor play helps children to develop strength and coordination, make connections to nature, and satisfy curiosity and interest. This 2-hour course will help teachers understand the importance of outdoor play and how they can make it a priority in their daily curriculum. This course addresses both safety aspects such as playground standards, inspections and equipment as well as addressing the teaching side of playgrounds. This module will present information of facilitating outdoor play, planning of curriculum and observation of that play. Strengthening Language through Responsive and Effective Interactions
This 2-hour course, entitled, "Strengthening Language through Responsive and Effective Interactions" is one of a 3-part series, "Infants & Toddlers: Strengthening Language through Responsive and Effective Interactions," created by Collaborative for Children to help early care professionals understand the importance of early language experiences and to learn ways to promote infants' and toddlers' language development within the child care setting. The work of educating young children from birth through 3 years of age is among the most important work that exists. Two areas of development which go hand-in-hand are oral language development and social emotional development. Responsive interactions with infants and toddlers are critical exchanges between care givers and children. In this course, we will discuss the why, what, and the how of strengthening language development through responsive interactions. Multiple strategies for effective, responsive communications are given. Funding for this online training was provided by HEB. Why Play? Understanding the Role of Play in Early Childhood
Teachers who take this 2-hour course will learn about the positive benefits of play. During play, children can escape the constraints of reality; the usual meanings of objects can be ignored and new meanings substituted. For example, a toy block can be a phone, a brush, or even a tasty sandwich. During this course, students will learn about the definitions and theories important to the concept of play, appropriate play material and how to support learning and play in early childhood classrooms. Additionally, teachers will develop age appropriate strategies to use to assist children with their play experiences.
