Si, Yo Puedo Class Leader Training
This course is not eligible for childcare CEU credits. The purpose of the Si, Yo Puedo Class Leader training is to prepare potential instructors to deliver the curriculum. Participants must satisfy the requirements to lead the Si, Yo Puedo program. This includes registered nurses, registered dietitian, and certified diabetes educator, and other previously approved health-related experts. Children in child care are 2-3 times more likely to acquire an infectious disease compared to children NOT in out of home care. This 1- hour course is designed to help you gain a better understanding of how to fight germs that invade your child care setting with earth friendly options. Our objectives are to increase the use of cleaning products that have fewer health risks; to increase the use of the least toxic disinfecting and sanitizing products and methods to control infection; and finally to determine the when?, where?, and why? of disinfecting surfaces. Grow Sun Smart - Reducing risks for skin cancer in child care settings
With over one million new cases diagnosed each year, skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States. Studies have shown that 80 percent of lifetime sun exposure can occur before the age of 18, childhood is a crucial period for awareness and prevention. A large proportion of lifetime exposure occurs in childhood therefore, targeting childcare settings can be an effective way to reduce ultraviolet (UV) exposure. It is important to protect young children from UV exposure as well as educate children with lifelong sun safety behaviors in order to reduce the risks of skin cancer. This 1- hour course is designed to help you gain a better understanding of how to Grow Sun Smart. This short educational module will teach us how we can all Grow Sun Smart, by minimizing sun exposure and reducing the risk of skin cancer at our child care centers. This course "Feeding Young Children with Special Food Needs in Child Care Settings" is intended for child care providers, parents, families, teachers, county agents and other professionals working with these children. This 1.5 hour course addresses the special food needs for medical conditions for preschool and kindergarten children. It is of utmost importance for the parents of children with special medical conditions (food allergies/intolerances, hyperactivity,choking, diabetes, and developmentally challenged) to provide the child care providers with the following: dietary meal plans and self-care instructions from their physician and dietitian with any special dietary requests for meals/snacks; and any special feedings or medications that they must be given to assist them in feeding all children in child care settings.
